ePrescribe Imported Meds: When medications are imported into Prime Suite from ePrescribe, they are populated in the Outside Prescribed or Practice Prescribed Medication listing with an icon that symbolizes that the medication was imported.

The sig information that is imported will be displayed just like all other recorded medications. The only exception is that the provider for the imported medication will be displayed in the comments field because the provider may or may not be represented in the Prime Suite Care Provider listing; therefore, we can not match providers on import.

Also, when medications are imported or sent electronically, the pharmacy intermittently provides a FILL DATE. When provided, this date is also displayed within the comments field.

If the medication is moved to the Practice Prescribed Medication listing, the icon should be removed from the new prescription but will still be displayed in the prescription history for the original imported recorded medication.

Imported meds function the same as recorded meds. They have all of the same actions available.

Note: The medications are listed in Alphabetical order within each sub-section. (The sub-sections are Practice Prescribed Medications and Outside Prescribed Medications.)

Examples include: (1) Medications that are listed on the PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Management) listing that the provider decides to add to the patient’s medication list as an outside recorded medication.  (2) If a provider prescribes a medication using the DrFirst web portal or a hand held device, the medication will be imported during the nightly update and will populate the inside meds listing with the imported icon.  (3)  If a renewal request is received for the medication, when the medication action of refill is processed, the refilled entry will have an imported icon.

Prescription Alerts

Required Field: N/A

Hovertext: N/A

Pre-Fill / Default: N/A

Control Content:

Behavior: The alerts are based on the concept of active vs. passive. Active alerts automatically pop-up in a window once a potential/definite complication has become evident. (I.e. entering the dose amount) Passive alerts, on the other hand, only provide you with a link to the same pop-up window. Passive alert links are always displayed for complications. The links are located within the Prescription Alert section on the upper right-hand side on the Prescription Pad.

The Prescription Alerts section will not display unless a patient interaction to selected medication exists.

Exception:  Food Interaction – Drug Food Interactions will always appear in this section as a passive alert if an interaction exists.  This information displays as the next to the last entry in the Prescription Alerts column just above ‘Unscreened Data’.

These alerts consider the patient’s characteristics (size, weight, age, etc) and the drug dose amount to warn the provider of possible negative effects.

The following hyperlink alert categories are available:

Drug Interactions

Precautions – When this link is selected, the following sex and age profiles will be screened:

Males and Females > 65:  Geriatric Precautions

Males and Females < 18:  Pediatric Precautions

Females, Other, Unknown => 12 and <= 50:  Pregnancy and Lactation Precautions

Because of the overlap, Females, Unknown, Other >= 12 and <= 19 will get Pregnancy, Lactation and Pediatric precautions

Dose Checking – When this link is selected, only patient specific dosing information is returned. Generic messages will not display.

Drug Allergy

Unscreened Data – When this link is selected, the following will appear:

No ICD-9 mapping exists in FDB for the Past Medical History item

If a medication ID does not exist for a medication allergy or no data exists for an id in FDB (either changed, retired or obsolete, for example).

All medications entered through Blank Script.

An individual hyperlink will display when the patient/drug combination may cause a negative effect for the category. Otherwise, each of these links are hidden.

Upon click of any of these hyperlinks, a modal displaying alerts corresponding to the hyperlink category is opened in front of the Prescription Writer. Print is available.

Depending on User Settings, these alerts may automatically display over the Prescription Writer. The automatic display is shown when a field is changed by the user; not on OK.

When Special Instruction is selected from the SIG form, display the Prescriptions Alert instead of the alert categories:

Behavior:  Click to search for the literal string characters, as submitted by the user. If no drug results are returned, search phonetically.

System developers can duplicate this SearchType by implementing the No Phonetic search first, and upon receiving an empty collection, call the navigation object again with Phonetic Only as the SearchType.

The framework uses a complex algorithm of letter and sound substitutions to search for names that sound like the string submitted by the user. This allows the user to enter a text string that may not contain the correct spelling and still retrieve the desired results.

For example, the Search Text “cote” will return code, cute, and more. Because of the complexity of the substitutions, the user is not guaranteed to retrieve all of the drug results that might be returned by the No Phonetic search as members of the Phonetic Only results.
