MGMA consultant and one of nation’s top ICD-10 coders offers actionable steps to help practices prepare for the successful transition to ICD-10

TAMPA, Florida, July 11, 2013  Vitera Healthcare Solutions, the nation’s premier provider of ambulatory electronic health records (EHR) and practice management software and services, announced today a webinar to help physician practices execute plans for a successful transition to ICD-10 code sets, stressing that the time to prepare is now.

Physicians, practice administrators, billing managers and all office-based staff members can attend “4 Steps to ICD-10 Success” on July 24, 2013, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. ET.

One of the nation’s first fully accredited ICD-10 trainers, Nancy M. Enos will present the complimentary hour-long webinar. A member of the MGMA Health Care Consulting Group, Enos will walk attendees through The Four T’s of ICD-10 Transition: Timing, Technology, Training and Testing, providing the insight and resources they need to transition successfully to ICD-10.

Matt Hawkins, CEO of Vitera Healthcare Solutions, says the company recognizes that the ICD-10 transition presents a daunting challenge for every medical practice.

“There is little question that it will impact practice operations, cash flow and staff productivity,” he says. “But just how much impact it will have on individual practices will largely depend on how well prepared they are for the change. This webinar is designed to guide physician practices through a smooth and successful transition, with as little impact to business as possible.”

All of Vitera’s solutions, including Vitera Intergy, Vitera Stat and Vitera Medical Manager, will be ICD-10 enabled by the end of this year.

ICD-10 refers to the diagnosis and procedure code sets that physicians use to get reimbursed from payers for their services. Effective Oct. 1, 2014, the industry will replace the existing ICD-9 code sets with the new ICD-10 model, increasing the number of codes from the current 7,000 to approximately 68,000 codes.

“ICD-10 is the largest thing we’re facing and it will be a huge change for us from a billing perspective,” says Arie Cusato, Billing Manager, Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, New Hampshire, a Vitera customer.

”I’m very positive about what Vitera is doing around ICD-10. Physicians are not necessarily coders. It’s going to be a big challenge to get the right code for the right service and get those billed out appropriately. I can see Vitera put a lot of thought into the transition.”

According to Enos, FACMPE, CPMA, CPC-I, CEMC, an approved ICD-10 instructor by the American Academy of Professional Coders, “simply getting paid for the services physicians provide will be a lesson in diligence. It’s important for physicians to develop a plan and focus on what documentation elements are important to their practices,” she says.

Adds Hawkins, “As our customers should expect, Vitera will help them get ready for ICD-10. They can be confident that through webinars like this one and our other regulatory readiness resources, Vitera will prepare them for the changes ahead.” To find out more about Vitera’s commitment to customer regulatory readiness, visit www.viterahealthcare.com.
