Indian Health Service clinic implements Intergy, increases annual revenue by $1 million

Challenge

Peter Christensen Health Center (PCHC), a growing Indian Health Service (IHS) clinic in northern Wisconsin, sought a practice management system that would help it improve financial and clinical outcomes.

Previously, the center used the government’s clinical and administrative information management solution, Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS). A combination of many disparate systems, RPMS had an antiquated product interface and limited reporting capabilities.

Solution

By implementing Intergy — Greenway Health’s electronic health record (EHR) and practice management system — PCHC increased revenue and improved clinical standards.

PCHC used Intergy to analyze its data. Based on this analysis, it made billing and administrative changes that increased its revenue from federal programs. The center increased its top line by $1 million per year and no longer relies exclusively on its annual funding agreement to operate.

“Intergy revolutionized our clinic’s financials,” said Randy Samuelson, Health Director.

With the money the center made billing the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other payers, Intergy “paid for itself in six months,” Samuelson said. Intergy also gave PCHC the tools to manage population health — the average life expectancy in the community increased from 51 years to 56.

“The difference between Intergy and RPMS is like night and day,” said Dr. Adrienne Laverdure, Medical Director. “I can proactively manage my patients both individually and as a collective population, all from one system.”

Value-based care

Intergy’s new clinical dashboards simplify participation in value-based programs for the center. Effective reporting continues to be a priority as the center works to bring additional services to patients.

“We are a real-life example of the power of health information technology,” Laverdure said.
